Our Principal — Karlie Houser
Karlie Houser first traveled to Philadelphia to attend Temple University where she earned her Bachelors degree in Liberal Arts. She then went on to earn her Masters degree at the University of Pittsburgh.
She was known as a teacher's teacher in Pittsburgh because of her passion, not only for learning, but for helping others to teach effectively. Her years at The University of Pittsburgh also provided her with the ability to teach theater and stage movement. She began creating what she called "Experiential Lessonhoods", real life learning experiences that children could complete in their own neighborhoods. Many of these were inspired by her Pittsburgh neighbor, Mr. Fred Rogers (television's "Mr. Rogers") who lived "just down the street from us" in Pittsburgh.
Then, in the early 1970s, she had a "strange and wonderful encounter" with the truths of the Bible and the reality of who Jesus really is. That's when Ms. Houser made another great decision, a decision to follow Jesus.
Ms. Houser comes to the Academy after owning and directing 2 Montessori schools. She is married to her husband of 50 years, has three grown children and 10 "fabulous" grandchildren.
Ms. Houser believes that successful home school programs are built on the foundation of a Christian perspective and principles stating, "We are deeply committed to developing a K-12 online home school program that is superior in every way." Ms. Houser works with a team of passionate home school teachers, subject matter experts, student services personnel, home school curriculum developers, academic counselors, and home school support staff to present an online home school program that is second to none.
