Homeschooling online is a blessing to our generation because it was unthinkable some years back thatstudents can actually learn in front of a screen, and from teachers who may be a continent farther away from their locations.

Because students are often left alone when learning in a homeschooling online environment, there is need to monitor them and to make sure they know how to use the internet in a safe way so that they can achieve their goal of online homeschooling.

The following are 5 important online safety tips that all online home schooling students must know and observe if they want to succeed online.

  1. Be focused. Know why you are doing what you are doing and be committed to it.There are lots of interesting things to see online. Iftheybother what you are learning, do not give your attention to them. Remember, just a glimpse is enough to entrap you.
  2. Capitalize on the opportunities you have. These are numerous. You have time to yourself, you can choose your study time, you can study at your own pace, you can choose the number of subjects or courses you want to do at a time, etc. All of these are opportunities for you to learn and excel, so use them wisely and do not take them for granted.
  3. Do not talk to strangers unless you are in a monitored social environment. Do not give out your personal information to ANYONE and NEVER post pictures of yourself, especially in embarrassing predicaments, on the internet.
  4. Utilizeidentity protection programs and parental safety features on the computer. These will effectively shut you away from any unwanted sites and possible predators on the internet.
  5. Develop good study habits. This will save you from spending unnecessary time on Facebook or any other favorite social media, and ensure that you actually spend your time on your studies, which is more rewarding.

Online learning contains infinite possibilities for learning, but also opens you up to new vulnerabilities.  Learn how to effectively balance the two of these!
